Animal Kingdom was our first time in a Disney World park, and while I had originally hoped to start off the trip with the iconic Magic Kingdom, this park did not disappoint. I absolutely loved Animal Kingdom! The whole park is beautifully themed with an incredible attention to detail. We got to the park before rope drop, and once it opened we immediately headed for Expedition Everest, which ended up being our favorite ride and we got to ride it 5 times. If you enjoy a thrill without getting too intense, this ride is for you! Such a fun rollercoaster. We ended up getting to do most of what I had hoped to get to during our day in Animal Kingdom. We rode a decent amount a rides which was pretty exciting because of how busy the park was that day (remind me to never go to Disney World during spring break week again). We ended up getting on Expedition Everest 5 times, Primeval Whirl, Kilamanjaro Safaris, Kali River Rapids, and Dinosaur. We walked around on the jungle trails, ate some yummy snacks, looked around in some of the shops, listened to a live African band, and took the train over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch where we petted some goats in Affection Section and walked around Conservation Station.
For lunch, I made reservations for the Tusker House restaurant. This is again an expensive dining option, but one of my favorites of the entire trip. I loved everything about it and highly recommend it. I know sit-downs at Disney come with a large price tag, so it’s not for everyone. It ended up working out really well though, because the reservation was for 2 in the afternoon and by the time we got to the desk to check in for our reservation, everyone was tired, sweaty and a bit burned out. Being able to sit down in an air conditioned restaurant, relax and enjoy a delicious buffet with tons of different food options was the perfect recharge everyone needed. Plus, because it was such a busy day that day, all the lines for the counter service restaurants were super long. Nobody wants to wait in a long line in the sun when they’ve been walking miles all morning. Trust me! Anyway, the food was amazing and it was really great for my younger niece because Mickey, Goofy, Minnie and Donald all made their way to our table for pictures during our lunch.
After lunch, we decided to head over to make the next showing of Festival of the Lion King. Guys, if you have time, this show is a must do! It’s not super long, the costumes and decorations are beautiful and the show itself is just so so amazing. It ended up being one of my favorite activities of the whole day. We actually lucked out too because we were at the very back of the line, I’m talking like the very last people, and they ended up bringing us up to a bench in the very front of the stage! We seriously couldn’t believe it. After the show, we hung out and tried to hop on a few more rides before the park closed at 6. My niece Maddie and I ended up spending the entire day here, from opening until close. We did and saw so much, and were happily exhausted by the time we headed out of the park and made our way back to the bus, which we unfortunately waited a solid 20 minutes for. All in all, we loved Animal Kingdom!!
Enjoy your Sunday!
