How To: 10 Ways To Have A Better Day

April 23, 2017

In today’s world, people are always looking for ways to make things easier, do things faster and be happier. We’re always rushing through life and constantly stressing out over everything. Because of this, it seems like it’s so hard for people to relax in bed at the end of a long day and think about what a good day they had.  And a lot of times, it’s because they just…didn’t. I try to take mental notes when things happen that cause me to have a bad day and also when I try things that end up setting me up for a better, happier and more productive day. After years of trial and error, here are 10 of my favorite ways to make sure I have a better day!

1.Wake up early

There’s almost nothing worse than hearing your alarm go off while you’re laying in your warm and comfortable bed. Especially once you come to the realization that you’re not dreaming. I get it. But one thing I’ve discovered recently is how much better I feel when I get an early start to my day. Really! Not only does it make the day feel so much longer, but I can get so much more done. Especially if you have a lot to get done that day, getting a head start can make so much of a difference in how productive you are.

2. Listen to your favorite song while getting ready

I don’t know about you, but music can change my mood in an instant. I love putting on my iTunes playlist whenever I’m getting dressed and putting my makeup on, straightening up my room, doing dishes, working out or anything really. I always end up jamming out and singing along and my mood always improves, which is a great way to start the day on a positive and more upbeat note! Two of my favorites right now are It Ain’t Me & Evermore (yes, from Beauty & the Beast!!)

3. Eat breakfast

I know you’ve probably heard this. In fact, I’m willing to bet that you’ve heard it more than a few times. Sorry to break it to you, but I’m here to tell you again. Why? Because it’s important! I’m the type of person that gets really irritable when I’m hungry and it sets me up for a more likely day of unhealthy eating if I don’t start my day with a healthy, balanced and filling breakfast. I know it’s common to wake up and not be hungry for at least half an hour, so I completely understand not wanting to eat a whole breakfast. Even so, make sure you at least grab a banana, granola bar, greek yogurt or something else quick and easy so that you have something in your belly. It will make your day better, guaranteed!

4. Pick out your outfit the night before

My mornings always go so much more smoothly when I have my outfit laid out and ready. Picking out what to wear for the day is always a long and picky process (roll your eyes all you want you know it’s true), so it can be a total lifesaver if you pick out your outfit the night before. Even if you don’t have to go to work. If I have a time limit, it makes getting ready so stressful and I’m more likely to get frazzled. Plus, having your outfit ready to go may earn you an extra 5 or 10 minutes of sleep in the morning. Score!

5. Let the light in & open the windows if it’s nice out!

One of the first things I do after waking up is open up the blinds to let the sunshine in. The house always feels so much better when there’s lots of natural light coming in! If you’re going to be home during the day and the weather’s nice, open the windows too to let some fresh air in too. I don’t know what it is about sunshine & open windows, but it always gets me in a cleaning & organizing mode. Plus you just feel better!

6. Read something motivational or inspirational

Whether it’s scrolling through quotes on Pinterest, reading your Bible, a motivational quote-a-day calendar or a few sticky note affirmations like I mentioned in this post, reading something motivational is one of my favorite ways to feel good about myself and ready to attack the day.

7. Drink plenty of water

Not only is it so vital for keeping your body healthy, making sure to drink enough throughout the day will make you feel so much better physically and mentally. I always try to drink lots throughout the day because I tend to get headaches if I don’t. If you struggle with plain water, try sparkling water or adding a fun flavor packet to your water bottle. There are seriously endless amounts of flavor choices for jazzing up your water!

8. Limit your screen time

I know this is a difficult one. This is hard for me too as a blogger, but it’s so important to step away from your phone, laptop or TV at least a few times throughout the day. Not only does screen time prevent you from going outside and living your life and interacting with actual people, but it can affect how you feel throughout the day. For example, if I spend multiple hours straight staring at a computer screen I tend to get headaches and feel sluggish and just icky for the rest of the day. Definitely not fun.

9. Take a walk

Walking is so so good for your mind and body. It seriously is the best free form of therapy! Even a short stroll around your neighborhood or on a nature trail near you for half an hour every day can make such a difference for your health and mood. I like to go on walks with my mom because it gives us a chance to chat about anything and everything, but other times I’ll go by myself and just listen to my favorite music on my iPod. There’s nothing like the feeling of stretching your legs while getting some sunshine and fresh air. And remember, even if you go nice and slow it’s still more exercise than you were getting on the couch!

10. Get a good night’s sleep

This one is a no-brainer I know, but again it is just so important! In fact, it really is the single best way to set you on the right track for having a better and more productive day. Really strive for at least 8 hours if you can, but try for no less than 6 at the very least. A fully rested body will thank you throughout the day with a clearer and sharper mind and more energy overall!

What are some of your favorite ways to make sure you have a good day??

Happy Sunday Funday! xo
