Traveling is something I have always wanted to do more of and something I can never get enough of.
I’ve been to a handful of places throughout my life, but the list is pretty tiny and pathetic compared to all of the places that exist in the world. As a kid growing up, my family never took vacations. Partly because of financial reasons, but also because neither of my parents were travelers. Meaning, they didn’t really care about traveling. This never really bothered me when I was younger, since you can’t technically miss something you never had or were never aware of. I didn’t even step foot on an airplane until I was 21! As I’ve gotten older and become more aware of what’s out there, the more I find myself having a craving to explore and see the world.
To be honest though, traveling is a hard one. Why? Because it costs money. And usually a relatively decent amount of it. Unfortunately, money is not something I have a lot of right now, so sadly, traveling is temporarily off the table for me. I know that there are people out there that know how to travel for dirt cheap, but I am not one of those people and let’s be real, that just isn’t the norm. Generally, traveling anywhere even for a short time will require at the very least $500 – $1000. At least. Yes, ideally I’d be on back to back trips going on countless trips and vacations throughout the year. That is just not my reality right now, but maybe and hopefully someday!
So far, I’ve been on trips to New Mexico, Italy, New York City, El Paso twice and Disney World
Yup. That’s all folks.
So, needless to say…I’ve got a lot to go. And I intend to!
Now, as far as sharing my travel bucket list goes, I’m technically cheating a bit because I want to go everywhere. Just saying that doesn’t make for a long or particularly interesting post though does it? So, I figured that I’d share the places pretty high up on my travel bucket list instead. I’m always interested to hear what destinations are on other people’s travel bucket lists as well. In fact, it’s one of the first things I ask people when I’m getting to know them. I’ve found it to be a simple and non-invasive way to learn about someone. It usually gives me an idea about what kind of person they are and it’s honestly just interesting!
So here are a few destinations that are pretty high up on my travel bucket list:
Pacific Northwest (Oregon & Washington, particularly the coasts)
French Polynesia (Mo’orea, Taha’a & Bora Bora)
Charleston & Savannah
San Francisco & Napa Valley
Vermont (in the fall)
Canada (Banff & Jasper National Parks)
Thailand (Ko Phi Phi)
France (particularly Provence & the French Riviera)
Greece (particularly Mykonos & Santorini)
Obviously, I think it would be amazing to be able to visit every country, but these are the places I would be absolutely crushed to never get a chance to visit before I die. I know that there are places I won’t get to and that’s okay as long as I make the most of my time and travel as much as I am able so that I leave with no regrets. One thing I’d like to accomplish though is to set foot on every continent. How cool would that be? Not to mention a little more attainable! Another thing I really want to accomplish before I die is to visit every national park in America. They all look incredible and I’ve always wanted to explore each and every one. So far I’ve only been to 2 of them – Great Sand Dunes and Carlsbad Caverns.
If I have learned anything from my travels thus far (despite not being many places) it’s that this world is so beautiful and so magnificent. I think it is such a blessing to be able to explore the wonders of this planet. To gain new experiences, make new memories and be able to marvel and leave breathless at seeing something new and amazing beyond words. Traveling provides you with experiences and feelings you’ll never get anywhere else. So go. Explore. Wander.
